A government led delegation left to USA, today, with a splendid mission to initiate the reinstating of garment bill in the US Senate once introduced by Senator Mrs. Dianne Feinstein in last March and then withdrawn by her recently for the cause of violating international norms by HMG of Nepal while handling 18 Tibetan Refugees to China. The delegation comprises of Secretary at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Madhu Raman Acharya, and President of Garment Association – Nepal, Mr. Kiran Prakash Saakha.
While in the USA the delegation will coordinate with the Nepalese Embassy in Washington and also with Ms. Mary Carroll, the trade envoy of FNCCI in order to move ahead tactfully. They have a plan to meet with Senator Mrs. Dianne Feinstein with the petition of about 500 signatures collected by Ms. Carroll, which will create conducive atmosphere to persuade her to get the bill back to the table. The delegation will also meet with the distinguished people associated with the concerned departments or institutions so as to develop favorable ground for reinstating the garment bill. Once the garment bill reinstates in the US Senate and passed by the US government in time, then, Nepalese garment will enjoy duty free and quota free advantage for about 2 years starting from October 1, 2003 to September 30, 2005.
The GAN extends best wishes to the delegation members for achieving all success in their endeavor.
