The Industry & Garment Association-Nepal.

Garment Association - Nepal(GAN) is the apex organization of the garment industries that manufacturer & exporter of readymade garments. Presently GAN comprises of about 200 member institutions. The principle objectives of GAN are the promotion of the interests of member institutions through co-ordinated dissemination of relevent information, and encouragement and safeguarding the interests of the garment sector through interaction & assistance with the government.

GAN assists in the area of collecting and disseminating trade & other relevent information to the member institutions. As the apex representative organization of the manufacturers & exporters of readymade garments of Nepal, GAN participates in consultative and advisory committees constituted by the government & national level apex body of private sector i.e. FNCCI for interaction in national policy formulation, organises seminars and workshop on enhancement of the garment industry.

Apart from this GAN has close liason with international organizations to strenghten and protect the interest of the garment industry in Nepal.

• Beside this the major core objective/functions are as follows:
• Monitor & work towards steady growth of the garment industry.
• Provide pragmatic suggestion and advice to government and other related agencies to formulate policy as well as programs to enhance garment industry.
• GAN plays a vital role to secure garment industry controlling transshipment of readymade garments from other countries.
• Functionally, GAN has been issuing textile visa recommendations to concerned agencies as well as cooperating and recommending them to central bank & other commercial banks in opening letter of credit and other related tasks. GAN also cooperates in labour relation and development issues & other disputes that arise between exporters and importers, unions and management etc..
• Give assistance to government in formulation an implementation of quota policy.

Nepal, being a landlocked & least developed country, has limited items to export, past revolution on Nepal exports & carpet, garment & handicraft items cover 90% of the total export. It is interesting to observe the rapid development of garment Industry in the country. Currently garment industry in Nepal has covered more than one-third of the total export providing employment for about 50,000 workers directly.
